I'm almost scared to ask this... What are your guys opinions of retread tires. I want to get new tires but can't float the cash. Poaking around on another forum some guy was talking about how nice his retreads were. He go them from this sight http://high-tec-retreading.com//Desktop ... tabindex=0
The only experience I have had with them is my mom bought some and had a blow out that screwed all sorts of stuff up on the underside of her van. Didn't know if any of you guys had any experience good or bad.

No personal experience but I've heard very good things about those Hi-Tec's. I've considered getting them myself if I can't find any other decent deals soon.

I have some on my semi truck. Sometimes the tread separates from the carcass, but they usually last as long as a virgin. (insert your own joke here) I would think it's ok to use them as long as you keep an eye on tire pressure. Heat is harder on recaps.

I think that there are some DOT regulations about running them on a front axle. We ran a ton of them at Verizon on and off over the years and we have had so so luck with them. I do not know how well they would work aired down

I can usually find a good set of used for the same price.
But I go for the more ex ream lug patterns.

I remember a thread on pirate about these, seems they people said they were decent quality but smaller than advertised. For just a little more though, probably less by the time you figure shipping, you could get something like the Delta Mud Trac or a few other cheaper tires that are pretty decent and can be bought locally.

I have 40K on my Hitech retreads and I should get another 20K out of them. Had them for a little more than 2 years now without one problem. Air up air down and never lost a bead. You do get a choice of what tire they are mounted on. I had them put on Michelins. At the time they were only $50 a tire, but their prices have gone up since then. I'm running the Mud OTR from what I can remember of how they list them.
I have 1/2" of tread left. That reminds me I need to rotate them again.

Thanks. I think what I am going to do since the tires on my Jeep right now are almost new, is buy some of these retreads and put them on a seperate set of rims and just use them when going off road. I really don't see the point of spending all that on new tires that I can run on and off the road when I have good tires already.

Would you suggest these if I were to buy a pair strictly for offroad?

Have you checked out interco tires?
They have a bunch of blemished ones in their clearance section that might work for you as well.

They had 4 of the exact tires I was looking, by the time they responded to my email (very quickly by the way), they had JUST sold the tires. Oh well I ended up getting a pretty good deal on EBay anyhow. 5 37 12.50R16 SSRs for $880 to my door.

If it was me I would find much more aggressive tires if you plan on using them for just off roading. I needed them for a DD as well as off road so, it met my purpose much better.

My next question is would you suggest any particular tire that isn't rediculously (spelling?) expensive? Just got out of college and have no ?
Wouldn't suggest majoring in philiosophy if you want to find a job!!
