Starting with this: Specs on what I've done so far: 1996 Jeep XJ d30 front, d44 rear, 4.10s, detroit trutrac front, detroit locker rear, JCR front bumper, TNT rockrails, multimount winch. Phase II plans: The slightly scribbled list (kind of complete) Need to tighten up the rear locker, there is some slop in the gear setup warn front hub conversion, transfer case skid plate, d30 diff guard got these uniframe stiffners to weld on gonna swap in this np231 with the hd aa output shaft kit already installed, which means at least a new rear driveshaft too still working on my own set of 33s, but i have 15x8 rims for the tires won a steering box brace that i need to get ordered. may end up with hydro assist, not sure at this point. got a complete set of leather seats to swap in as well... build a rear bumper/tire carrier as well fix sagging headliner replace rusted parts of exhaust, upgrade to flowmaster 2 chamber muffler repaint sliders and bumpers...maybe even entire jeep...we'll see and this is the major part of the project... you get the picture...gonna get some 18 gauge steel coming... mac 'might have some other mods in store...this is a good start' gyvr

Boy, you weren't lying! that sucker is rusty! 95'? I got under my 90' XJ, and was happy to see-------No floor pan rust! It only has 110,000 miles on it though. I bought it totaled in 05' and it only had 89,000 on it All I had to do to put it together was a bumper, a taillight, and a liftgate. I am buddies with the guy that ran fort wayne auto parts back then, and he gave me all my parts for $50.00! and I only gave $1600.00 for the truck! That was back when you couldn't find a decent XJ for less than like 4 or 5 grand! So how much mre are you doing to the baby jeep before it becomes the toddler jeep, or the teenage jeep!

Damn man.. you weren't kidding about those floor boards! Mine aren't pretty either. That, and I have some actual holes that showed up in the sides of the tub this year.

I finally set a date to get the baby jeep done by...Thanksgiving weekend to go wheelin in it! Not only did I make that date...I went wheelin! So I have two wheelin rigs going... Here's what progressed (if you read my 2009 year in review, so of this may be a review) got the floor pans, nice start without fabbing a bunch of just plain sheet metal...i know it saved me time cleaned and prepped and cleaned and cut somemore then...there was a break where it was busy...finally put the time in to get them done progress at last... after welding them in, i used a body filler that is water tight then laid down the herculiner i got with a buddy making XJ roof sliders... his page is here: http://www.hdoffroadengineering.com/collections/frontpage/products/xj-roof-slidershe gave me a deal that i couldn't refuse and i am the 3 or 4th person to purchase/install them 1st i actually gave a crap about paint and laid down about $100 in primers and paint heres how they arrived all the hardware first a coat of this then three coats of this and allowed to dry over night in the warm garage then a final 3 coats of this after a light sanding of the primers...i actually used flat black...not the semi gloss shown pulled off old roof rack install the new ready to go wheelin stock rear bumper replacement is next on the list... muddy, soaked and dirty...put water in it over the seats...and some body damage... also before the wheelin trip, i swap tcases with the 231 going in, added a nowak shifter for reliability and simplicity, swapped steering boxes with one that didnt leak (steering is much more improved and i don't feel the front locker anymore in 2wd...i also stapled the headliner back up...not sure if its permanent or not, but its mostly working so far... still left, rear bumper replacement, uniframe stiffiners (from HDoffroad), leather seat swap and warn hub kit... mac 'more to come' gyvr

Finally installed this newtome rear bumper...i broke my old hitch into two pieces... had to do some modifications and make it stronger (i hope) but makes the jeep look good with aftermarket bumpers all the way around and rock rails...notice the shackels i won from naxja winterfest raffle as well... these came today...already tell they are miles of improvement over the first set of poly motor mounts i bought ten years ago from another company... mac 'gotta keep making it better...KOH support rig!' gyvr

Its not really how you do it, its what it would cost if you bought everything to do it new. Warn makes a lockout conversion for the d30 but it will cost some coin.

I bought the lockout kit used...much less than the price of a new kit.
It wont be any harder than swapping an axle shaft...but I do prolly need new bearings.
I have rear discs to swap on as well...
