Are there any downsides to having a snorkle? I'm looking at the AEV with the prefilter. I really don't plan on doing any deep water fordings, I just think they look cool.

Not as much airflow as factory, in many cases. Besides, this is Indiana, not Australia. No flash floods on Coliseum Blvd. I'd spend the money on function.

I'll second that. Just stay out of the tubes at the badlands.

hehe....

Just because you have a snorkle doesnt mean you can go through deep water anyhow... there are alot of other things, mainly electrical, but also fluids and such you don't want water getting into, just because you don't get water in the air intake doesn't mean it won't go anywhere else.
In Austrialia the main reason for snorkels is clean air... its dusty over there...

i wanted one for a while but finally decided against it. If you plan on running tight trails with lots of brush running along your Jeep, that thing is gonna hang off the side an catch a bunch of it. They are supposed to be flexible and take the abuse, but its one more thing to get hung up on or smash into a trunk. I think im just gonna run my intake into the cowl or into the cab to keep it dry when i end up in those "didnt look that deep" situations

I say do as you wish...its your rig. if you want a snorkle, get one. Its a little protection if theres a slip up, and you do go in a water hole that is too deep for the jeep. I know. i have done it, and had to replace the motor. but you can always check it out before you go in, also, it is a object that could be easiely taken out by a limb, or tree. We do live in a state that does not have much rocks but alot of mud. I dont run a snorkle...1 because i check it out before i go in it, 2 i think they are ugly, 3 im not in the mud that often (really dont like it all that much)

No it came with the whole intake kit, just haven't put it on yet. An outterwear, don't know how well it guard against water though.

I have one. I look at as insurance. I always get out and try to judge the depth of a mudhole with a stick.. but if it's pretty far across, sometimes you make a mistake and it turns out to be a LOT deaper than you think. It's definitely cheaper than a new motor. There are a few holes at the Badlands and 1 at HNF that tried to eat mine a few times already. It does like to get caught on stuff, but the plastic that they are made of seems really flexible. I peeled mine back against a tree once. Once I got clear of the tree, it went "sproing" and popped back to where it was.
