At 5:00PM, while waiting for my family tonight at Fazolis near Times Corners, I spotted late 70s Jeep W/T (wide track) Cherokee.
It came down Covington Road, stopped at the light at Jefferson Blvd/US24 and then proceeded West on Covington into the Aboite area.
It may have turned North on Getz toward Meijer’s, but I could not tell.
It was charcoal gray in color with a white Wagoneer tailgate.
It had a “Razor” grill, so it was no later than a ’78 model.
I am guessing maybe a 1977 or 1978 model.
It appeared to have a lift lit installed, but rolling on smallish tires, maybe 31” in size.
With the lift, it could fit 35’s easy.
The front wheels were the uncommon Jeep alloy “Silver Dollar” rims while the back wheels were white paint steel wagon spoke rims.
Its AMC 360 sounded healthy as it pulled away from the light.
The body was very straight, clean and from the distance I was drooling from, it appeared to have little or no rust.
In the 8 or so years that I have been into Full Sized Jeeps, this is the first W/T Cherokee hairy man boobs in Fort Wayne.
Was this anyone from here?
Has anyone seem this rig around town?
Does anyone know whose rig this might belong too?

Sorrieeee
I have failed to realize not everyone here is from Fort Wayne.

Anyways, this sighting occurred on the SW side of the Fort near the Times Corner stripmall on US24.

Yes, it was a nice Cherokee from where I was at.
I want to run out in traffic and say HI and look over this fellow's rig...but I didn't.
I could not determine if this Cherokee was a Chief (missing the Chief decals) or an S Model.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe the S model was ever offered in a wide track?

Mmmmm...I think you may be correct.
The S Model may have only been a Narrow Track...like a 2 door Wagoneer.
IMHO, not as sexy as the W/T.

So, I need to dig and read some more what a W/T Cherokee that is not a Chief would be called?

I know from the pics, the front clip I bought for my J10 came from a Golden Eagle Cherokee.
I've read that there were other years that Jeep build GE Cherokees, but all the ones I know about, seen pics of, owner's I spoke too, ones hairy man boobs for sell...were all 1979 models.
One year one as far as I am concerned.
So, its a FSJ Cherokee trim package that looks SWEEEETT!
A red colored Cherokee with the Chief trim package looks equally excellent.

I had a '79 wide track that I parted out. It didn't appear to have any trim package that was labled though.
My '81 is a plain jane narrow track.
