 Post subject: tranny issue on my 1990 xj

So I. When I Finally think I had all the gremlins out of my jeep I get it running and now the jeep won't move in drive I can put it inreverse it works fine I put it in 3rd its fine put it in 1-2 its fine what could this be I will say that I had to get a new shiftercable to go from the shifter to tranny and I pulled one from a h.o motor and it was alot shorter than the original I don't know if that would be an issue or not the tranny is also one I got from a junk yard i'm just hoping tranny doesn't need rebuilt any input Would be great tha

if its the same transmission on each jeep, then the cable length shouldn't matter.
It probably just needs adjust somehow.

correction after further investigation the jeep has park reverse neutral drive and third but in drive tranny will not shift out of first gear i checked inline fuse at tcm and it was a little melted but fuse wasnt blown and wires were not melted i did go ahead and replaced it but still no change....
